BN has obtained a simple majority to form new government

Barisan Nasional has obtained a simple majority by winning 127 parliamentary seats in the 12th general election.

Election Commission chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said as at 1.30am, Barisan Nasional had gained a clear majority of over 50% of the 222 Parliamentary seats contested.


DAP Secretary General Lim Guan Eng will become the Penang Chief Minister which is
endorsed by PKR. DAP has earlier won the Penang State election.

The EC has also announced a simple majority in several states including Perlis, Pahang, Malacca, Negri Sembilan and Terengganu.

However, Abdul Rashid added that he still could not announce the results for a few states including Penang, Perak and Selangor as there was no single clear winner to form the state governments in these respective places.

“That is why I cannot make an announcement now unless there is a coalition formed in such states,” he said.

Abdul Rashid added that such a process would take time.

PM Abdullah Amad Badawi has retained Kepala Batas parliamentary seat with 11,246 votes majority over PAS opponent Subri Md Arshad.

He accepts defeats in some areas, says, this is how democracy works, urges people to remain calm and not to celebrate in the streets.

Deputy PM Mohd Najid Tun Razak(BN) wins Pekan parliamentary seat(P85), beating Khairul Anuar (PKR)with 26,464 majority.


The Barisan Nasional has won 8 out of 15 seats in Perlis enabling it to form the state government.

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang wins Rhu Rendang state seat(N19) Terengganu with 9,379votes, beating Razali Idris(BN)who got 6,693 votes.


Terengganu MB Idris Jusoh has retained the Jertih seat with a majority of 3,046 votes by beating Haji Hassan Salleh of PAS.


Unofficial results for Kulai P163:Ong Ka Ting(BN) 32,017, Ng Pack Siong(DAP)20,273.Majority:11,744.

P60 Taiping: M Kayveas has lost to DAP's Nga Kor Ming.

PKR's Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has won Bandar Tun: Razak parliamentary seat, beating BN's Tan Chai Ho by majority of 2,515.

P153 Sembrong, Johor:Hishammuddin Tun Hussein(BN) gets 17,988 votes, beating Lee Sang(PKR) by majority of 11,570.

Dr. Koh Tsu Koon expected to call press conference to concede defeat to DAP in Penang, official result yet to be released.

Detained Hindraf leader Manoharan (DAP) takes Kota Alam Shah state seat (N48), beating Ching Su Chen (BN) with 7184 majority.

Malacca CM Mohd Ali Rustam has won Bukit Baru state seat by majority of 2,708 votes, polling 7,644 votes, against PAS' Bakrin Sidek's 4,936.

As of 9.50pm, Barisan has won 26 parliamentary seats (inc 8 unopposed), DAP has 3 and PAS 1.

Election Commission: Voter turnout was about 70% nationwide, Kelantan and Putrajaya had highest turnout at 81% each.

P44 Permatang Pauh, Penang:Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail(PKR) gets 30,338 votes to beat Pirdaus Ismail(BN) by 13,388 majority.

Blogger Jeff Ooi wins 3-cornered fight for Jelutong parliamentary seat(P50)with 30,493 votes and 16,246 vote majority.

Perak PAS secretary Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, who won the Pasir Panjang state seat, has been named the new Perak Mentri Besar.

Terengganu MB Hadi Awang has won the Marang parliamentary seat, securing a majority of 33,435 over his BN opponent Dr Ahmad Ramzi Zubir.

P143 Pagoh, Johor:Muhyiddin Md Yassin(BN)gets 21,028 votes to beat Mohd Rozali Jamil(PAS) by a 12,581 majority.

P77 Tanjung Malim: Ong Ka Chuan of BN has won by a majority of 5,422 against PKR's Mohd Azman Marjohan.
