PM Abdullah announces new cabinet at noon today with more than half are new faces, including ex-Kota Baru MP Zaid Ibrahim as Minister in PM's Department.
The PM has cut down the ministries from 32 to 27 only. 17 ministers have been retained and 5 of them are in their old portfolios.
Among those dropped are Rafidah Aziz, Radzi Sheik Ahmad, Azmi Khalid and Jamaluddin Jarjis.
Maybank's president Amrisham Abdul Aziz is made Minister in PM's department;Muhyiddin Yassin is to head MITI and Ong Tee Keat is the new Transport Minister. Dr. Ng Yen Yen is the Women, Family, Comm Development Minister, whereas Liow Tiong Lai is the Health Minister.
Rais Yatim is now the new foreign minister. Ong Ka Chuan is being appointed Housing, Local Government Minister; and Mohamad Yakcop retains his second finince minister's post.
MIC Sec-Gen Dr S Subramanian is the Human Resources Minister, Shabery Chek is the Information Minister, Azalina Othman is Tourism Minister and Khaled Nordin is being appointed as Higher Education Minister.
Shahrir Samad returns to cabinet as Domestic Trade, Consumer Affairs Minister and Muhammad Muhd Taib is the Rural & Regional Development Minister.
The Bar Council has welcome the appointment of Zaid Ibrahim as Minister in the PM's Department tasked with restoring confidence in the judicial system.
