Chandra is being threatened to be sued for RM20 million

Dr Chandra Muzaffar may be saying something he believed is the truth against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, however, he is now being threatened to be sued for more than RM 20 million.

Dr Chandra Muzaffar is the former Parti Keadialan Nasional deputy president. He told the media that Anwar had threatened to sue him for libel for remarks he made during a forum on March 3.

Dr Chandra said Anwar demanded an "unequivocal public reraction" of his remarks, an apology and an undertaking "not to repeat" the "allegations and comments."

He said,"he is also demanding damages from me for the "injury caused to his reputation" of RM 10 million for each of the articles in the two newspapers."

Libel suit is the risk the newspaper owners and journalists have to face.

When Anwar was in Singapore on March 5, he spoke about the opposition's zero access to the mainstream media and its biased reporting. No wonder the media has to be careful about what is reported in the paper because everyone is monitoring you, including the government.

As a politician, Anwar has to fight back using legal proceeding otherwise there maybe many other people like Dr Chandra who will come out and say something which might affect his reputation. March 8 is polling day. Now is March 6. You have got one more day to do the election campaign and a lot can be said.

If Anwar is serious about suing, there may be more people he can sue now because many have come out openly to slam him.

But there is such a thing as fair comment otherwise we better keep our mouth shut if we don't have RM 20 million.
