Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim did nothing when he was Education Minister and he sang different tunes before different crowds, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said.
The Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi
The Prime Minister agreed with Dr Chandra Muzaffar's comments on Monday about the former deputy prime minister.
“There is truth in what Dr Chandra said about him (Anwar), based on what he has done before.”
Dr. Chandra(Left) and Anwar(Right)
Dr Chandra gave a harsh comment against Anwar if the latter were to become the prime minister.
That was the unhesitating reply of former Parti Keadilan Nasional deputy president Prof Dr Chandra Muzaffar who broke his silence on his years as Anwar's trusted lieutenant when asked a question on the opposition Parti Keadilan Rakyat's de facto leader at a forum on March 3.
Asked why he was breaking his silence now, Chandra said it appeared that people were being deceived by Anwar.
"It is something for which I am prepared to go on record now so that people will not be deceived," he said.
Chandra, an academician who founded the reform movement Aliran and has also previously been detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA), was among many professionals and intellectuals who formed Keadilan because they were enraged with Anwar's sacking as deputy prime minister, his beating at the hands of then Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Rahim Noor and his subsequent charge for sodomy.

In Kepala Batas, Abdullahsaid Anwar would say different things to different audiences.
Abdullah also agreed with former Gerakan president Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik who on Saturday described Anwar as a “chameleon”.
Anwar was speaking in a ceramah.
“Keng Yaik knows Anwar very well. He (Anwar) promised the Indians a lot of things. But what did he do when he was in the Government?” the Prime Minister asked.
Abdullah was commenting on Dr Chandra’s opinion that the country would face “unmitigated disaster” should Anwar become the prime minister.
Dr Chandra had said at The Star-Asian Centre for Media Studies public forum on the General Election 2008 on Monday that Anwar was not the sort of leader the country needed as he was singing a different tune when he was in Government.
On why he finally broke his silence about Anwar who had been criticising the Government during his campaign rounds, Abdullah said: “Whatever is appropriate, I have to say.”
Earlier when launching the I-Pintar interactive programme for rural schools at SK Hashim Awang, the Prime Minister said the Opposition had brought in their jaguh (champion) to hit out at the Government.
“Apa yang Anwar Ibrahim buat selama jadi Menteri Pelajaran? (What did Anwar Ibrahim do when he was Education Minister?)” he asked the crowd.
The Prime Minister then turned to current Education Minister Datuk Hishamuddin Tun Hussein, who was present, and asked him about the two-tier salary scheme that did not move during Anwar’s period.
“During his time, those wanting a promotion had to be education officers although they still loved teaching.
“Now, they do not have to be education officers but can still be super teachers (guru cemerlang) and with a higher salary scale.”
On the Opposition’s price hike campaign line, Abdullah said the pledges made by their leaders were only empty promises and that the country would face inflation and go bankrupt if they were implemented.
He also said the Opposition leaders were trying to fool the people when they said they would reduce fuel price and give RM6,000 each to poor families.
“They just want the rakyat to feel seronok (feel good)
“The Barisan Nasional has never made empty promises. We always deliver our pledges. Tapi bila kita buat, depa buat ronyeh (colloquial Penang dialect that literally translates as “when we want to do it, they disturb our plans”).
“I have never talked about this matter but it is time for me to say it. Naik geram juga (I am upset),” he said.
The above article appeared in The Star today.
Not only the PM, Dr. Chandra, Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik hit on Anwar, Nalla also slams Anwar.
Datuk K.S. Nallakaruppan said:”Anwar only cares for himself, I just don’t want him to destroy the nation.”
He said, “Anwar’s goal is to be Prime Minister, and he will do anything to make this happen.
Datuk K.S. Nallakaruppan
He was Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s “closest friend” for almost 30 years and was better known as Anwar’s “tennis partner” when the former deputy prime minister made headlines in 1998.
He even “went to jail for a year for Anwar” stood by his friend after that and gave in to Anwar’s wishes for him to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat 2006.
But now, Datuk K.S. Nallakaruppan is going around campaigning for the Barisan National telling the people that they should not be blinded by Anwar like he was.
“I thought he was a friend but he was a “friendly-user”. No one knows him as well as I do. I can say h only cares about hs own interests.”
What will happen if Tun Dr. Mahathir did not sack Anwar and Anwar later become the PM?d
At that time, interest rate was high and it was difficult for the businessmen to do business because whatever profit made would be eaten up by the interest charged.
The businemen were very unhappy about Anwar because they said Anwar had created that high interest rate environment and doing business was difficult. Maybe if Anwar were to take over, he could just change the policy and everthing would be different.
They said Anwar has changed. He is now multi-racial. What made him changed? Is it political reality or he really believed that he has to change because he wants to make a better Malaysia.
Although Anwar is only the adviser for PKR and he even did not stand for election because of the statutory restriction.
But if PKR can win the election, Datin Seri Wan Azizah Ismail could just resign to pave the way for Anwar's take over. If Anwar could be in power, he could do whatever he wants to do.
What will he do is what we want to know? Will he do whatever he pledged?
In politic, it is just very interesting. When you said something, there will be response and feed-back. You can only know the truth if you think real hard.
Wee Choo Keong said in his statement as follows:
Dr Chandra Muzaffar, a self-proclaimed intellectual and arm-chair critic of BN of yesteryears, suddenly saw it fit to allow himself to be manipulated by the Barang Naik party to cast malicious aspersion against Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and to indirectly influence Malaysians not to support the opposition.
Wee Choo Keong was campaigning.
This is, for all intent and purpose, an affront to basic freedom and democracy.
For a start, Chandra is just an intellectual fraud. He only pays lip-service to words like freedom and democracy.
In 1998/99 I was sacked from the DAP under strange circumstances and many other DAP leaders throughout the nation resigned from the DAP. At the same time, we were thinking of joining PKR in order to carry on our struggles against injustices, corruptions and abuses of power. During that period, Chandra was the Deputy President of PKR and he, as unreasonable as it was, saw it fit to make a unilateral declaration that all former DAP leaders were banned from joining PKR.
To say the least, this behaviour of his was absolutely bizarre and mind-boggling.
We were extremely shocked and disappointed with Chandra, whom we thought was a real democrat and a great defender of freedom and injustice. After the said infamous declaration of his putting a blanket-ban on former DAP leaders from joining PKR, we knew then that Chandra was merely an arm-chair critic and intellectual fraud when it comes to freedom and democracy.
Whatever Chandra had uttered last night at the forum organised by The Star was not unexpected given his past record. And those utterances should be consigned to the foul-smelling garbage bins much like his mouth at the time surely.
Moreover, Chandran’s vile gibberish of last night was also verbiage and an obvious act of sabotage against the people of this country.
Wee Choo Keong asked chandra to stop insulting the intelligence of the pubic
We call upon Chandra to carry on being an arm-chair critic in his academic ‘prison’ and to immediately stop insulting the intelligence of the public.
Chandra would also do well to go back to school to re-learn the basic principles of freedom and democracy.

Interesting. I had a good impression of Anwar when I first read about him a while back when he was released from prison. It's good to see other perspectives.
