Why Anwar is under attack?

Although Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said on March 1 in Kuala Trengganu that the Barisan Nasional (BN) is confident of securing a two-third majority in the general election on March 8, however, the way BN leaders attacked Anwar is like Anwar is on the leading side.

Front page reports:

PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng became the main targets of the four Barisan leaders who in turn fired salvo after salvo at them.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim tried to make a comeback into UMNO but the party does not want him, Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi said.

The Prime Minister, who made this revelation last night, said the de facto PKR leader was not important as "we have enough leaders in UMNO."

Furthemore, he fought against the party. we do not have to wait for him to come back. Now, he's looking for new friends and had gotten into a marriage of convenience.

Gerakan adviser Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik warned Malaysians that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is not their saviour.

"Anwar imagines himself to be a gift sent here from heaven to save Malaysians. He claims to be against the New Economic Policy(NEP) and is in favour of equality. My foot!"

He was addressing thousands of people who had turned up a Rifle Range Penang for the Malam Satu Hari Bersama Rakyat last night.

Penang Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon reveal yesterday that "PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim did not want to promote a capable and qualified Chinese to be the state education director when he was the deputy prime minister.

"Instead he wanted to promote Datuk Ahmad Farouk Abdul Majid who was less senior. I did not agree and even Ahmad Farouk himself admitted that Tang should have been promoted over him."

"Because I did not want Tang to be overlooked again, I approached then Education Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak who immediately gave his consen. Tang finally got the promotion he deserved in 1997."

Dr Koh said that Anwar was very unhappy and reminded him that he was the deputy PM and he should not have gone to Najib.

On page 29:

Former Human Resources Minister Tan Sri Lim Ah Lek said Anwar, PKR's de facto leader, was obiviously fishing for votes.

"As an ex-deputy prime minister, he should be more responsible. He shouldn't be saying one thingin front of the Chinese and another thing in from of the Malays," Lim told a press conference at Wisma MCA yesterday.

On page 33:

Datuk Wong Mook Leong said that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim didn't budge when the Chinese community protested against the sending of incompetent teachers to Chinese primary schools in the 1980s.

Datuk Wong, who is the MCA strategist, said what Anwar (then education minister) did was something the Chinese community would never forget.

Wong said the Chinse community protested when the Education Minister sent teachers who were not competent in Mandarin to Chinese primary schools. Anwar did not budge at all.
