In her first public reaction to being dropped from the Cabinet, former International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz said today that she will stay on as Wanita Umno chief.

Rafidah was excluded from the new Cabinet line-up announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on Tuesday.

Rafidah told reporters that she was not disappointed and accepted the Prime Minister's decision, but was surprised when Abdullah told her Tuesday that she would not be retained.

She said there would not have been a need for her to contest in the recent general election had Abdullah informed her of his plan beforehand.

Rafidah said the formation of the Cabinet was the Prime Minister's prerogative and she bore no grudges over the decision to not have her on board.

There are two deputies declined their posts, namely Datuk Seri Tengku Azlan Abu Bakar and Datuk Anifah Aman.

Tengku Azlan was quoted as saying that he had declined because he has not moved up the ladder.

He said, “I was deputy minister for two terms and since I cannot go any further, I feel it is time to move on.”

He said, “It is a normal reaction for anybody to look elsewhere when they are not going anywhere.”

As for Anifah, he said, “ I have already been a Deputy Minister for two terms and I feel it’s time for me to make way for a younger person to hold this post.”

He refused to state other reasons for his decision.
