KLANG: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is investigating how a doctored picture of Thai forensic expert Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand dressed as a gypsy sitting in front of a crystal ball was posted on its official blog.

An internal investigation was underway to ascertain who was responsible for the posting on the blog which was open to the public, said its corporate communication director Datuk Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya.

“Our technical team removed the posting within 10 minutes of it being posted in our blog.

“Shortly after, several online news portal called us regarding the posting. We informed them that we were surprised over the posting as well,” he said.

Ahmad added that appropriate action would be taken on those found responsible for the posting.

Several parties took to task the MACC over the posting which came in the wake of Dr Pornthip’s testimony at the Teoh Beng Hock inquest last week that the political aide did not commit suicide.

Selangor Speaker Teng Chang Khim, who is trained in law, said the MACC could be brought to book for both criminal and civil defamation for posting the entry on its blog.

He added the removal of the entry was not sufficient, as the damage had already been done.

Teng added that unless an apology was tendered to Dr Pornthip, the act would bring disrepute to both the MACC and the Government.

The blog entry followed MACC head of prosecution Datuk Abdul Razak’s criticisms of Dr Pornthip when she testified at the inquest last week.

He had questioned Dr Pornthip’s qualifications and credibility, adding her testimony was purely based on her imagination and was like the prediction of a fortune teller.
