Sin Chew reporter has been released

13/9 The Star online just reported that Sin Chew Daily News reporter Tan Hoon Cheng has been released after being detained for one day under the ISA.

This is unprecedented in the history of Malaysia. Ms Tan Hoon Cheng should thank whatever God she prayed for and take a few days holidays from her work.

Sin Chew online made the following reports:

PETALING JAYA: Sin Chew Daily senior reporter Tan Hoon Cheng was released this afternoon (13 Sep) after being detained overnight under the Internal Security Act for questioning.

Hoon Cheng's family confirmed that she had arrived safely at her home at Bukit Mertajam, Penang. It is uncertain where she was actually detained although it was initially understood to be at Bukit Aman, Kuala Lumpur. The family said she was alright and now resting.

Hoon Cheng was arrested under ISA for her report on the racist remarks by UMNO Bukit Bendera division chief Ahmad Ismail during the Permatang Pauh by-election.

Ahmad Ismail was allaged to have labelled the Chinese community as penumpang (lodgers). His membership has been suspended for three years by UMNO, but no police action has been taken against him so far. (MySinchew)
