Cheong Peng Choon, Perak DAP Chief Ngeh Koo Ham's assistant, came out openly to accuse Fong Po Kuan of using her flip-flop decision on her candidacy in the general election to ensure her "cronies" were given choice constituencies.
The 52-year-old Cheong was initially slated for the Tronoh state seat but was finally dropped as a candidate and replaced by V. Sivakumar.
My interpretation is if Fong did not agree to come back to contest, he would have got the chance to contest in the Tonoh seat.
This is what he said about Fong:
Her earlier decision to opt out of the elections was not because of infighting within the party and being forced out by the state committee as he had claimed when announcing her pullout.
Lim Kit Siang, DAP Adviser, Ngeh and Nga Kor Ming, Perak DAP Secretary, were wrongly blamed for Fong's decision to not contest.
Fong had wanted to retire in 2004 but decided against it when she found out that her opponent was Perak MCA chief Datuk Ong Ka Chuan.
Fong decided to run against him, hoping to lose to Ong so that it would be a good reason to retire from politics.
Fong had stopped serving her constituents a month before the 2004 election.
This is obviously mudslinging. Just check with Batu Gajah people and you will know whether Fong had stopped serving her contituents long time ago. 2004 and 2008 is a long time. Most of us are not from Batu Gajah, we will not be able to know the real truth. If you wanted to find out the real truth, you have to go to Batu Gajah. You cannot know the real truth by reading the newspaper report or listening to Cheong.
What Cheong is saying is Fong had wanted to retire long time ago even before the 2004election. Maybe so. But when she knew that Ong Ka Chuan is contesting, she decided to fight because to win is a sweet battle. To lose also is a glory as Ong Ka Chuan is considered a strong man in MCA. We are not able to read Fong's mind, but Fong, at that time is an incumbent for Batu Gajah. As an incumbent, you always have an advantage. The people have voted you and will vote for you again.
Maybe this time she also had decided not to contest. But with so much support from the people and from the party, she decided to contest again.
Maybe each time is different. What is important is the support of the people. As a politician, if you don't have support, you better get out. And Fong Po Kuan still got the support from the people.

Will MCA and MIC fight for your rights?
Decision-making power process within our present cabinet - UMNO: 35.9% of the vote, 73% of all cabinet positions
UMNO not only controls the parliament via Barisan, it has allocated itself 24 cabinet positions or 73% of all cabinet positions.
MCA has 4 cabinet positions or 12% of the cabinet positions.
MIC has 1 cabinet position or 3 % of the cabinet positions.
Gerakan has 1 cabinet position or 3% of the cabinet positions.
Other component parties hold 3 cabinet positions or 9% of the cabinet positions.
The opposition with 36.2% of all the popular votes is not given a single cabinet position.(This is for sure because they are not in the government)
Please note that although UMNO controls 50% of all parliamentary seats, it controls 73% of all the decision making processes within the cabinet.
BN Hierarchy of Power - Other parties not allowed to keep UMNO in check
Under the Barisan Party whip system, the majority component party within Barisan will dictate the rules of the game.
Other Barisan component parties like MCA, Gerakan or MIC cannot vote against what UMNO decides in whatever it likes, even if they wanted to. They cannot even abstain from voting without being punished.
Then how can the MCA or MIC be able to fight for your rights?

Since 1957, BN has amended the constitution 690 times to propagate its power. By comparison, USA which is more 200 years old has only amended its constitution 27 times; Singapore as little as only 4 times.
Barisan has the ability to amend the constitution as it likes due to its complete control of the government.
2004 Election Stats - UMNO: 35.9% of the Vote, 50% of the seats
UMNO received 35.9% of the popular votes but has 110 parliamentary seats or 50% of all parliamentary seats.
In total, Barisan received 63.8% of the popular votes but has 199 parliamentary seats or 91% of all parliamentary seats.
The opposition received 36.2% of the popular votes but has only 20 parliamentary seats or 9% of all parliamentary seats mainly because of gerrymandering.

政治是要来搞的
馬華40名原任國州議員將在本屆大選中引退或不再上陣，其中不乏有官職者。他們包括交通部長兼士拉央區國會議員拿督斯里陳廣才、教育部副部長拿督韓春錦、文化、藝術及文物部副部長拿督黃錦鴻及下議院副議長拿督林時清；行政議員有玻州的拿督黃雅蘭、雪蘭莪州的拿督鄧詩漢、馬六甲州的拿督佘貴忠以及柔佛州的龍莆天等。
黃家定說，馬華派出多名新人上陣，因為這是為馬華注入新生力的方法，這與馬華一直強調新陳代謝的理念是相符的。
基本上，马华议员都接受有关的安排。卢诚国虽然不满，但都还是接受党的指示。发生在他身上的事情比较特别，因为他的户外广告牌被涂鸦，卢虽然有去报案，但这种事情一般上是不了了之的。有分析员批评指他是因为平时敢讲话，所以被换。
馬華中委拿督林時清說，這次馬華採用“新陳代謝”理念安排候選人陣容，過於激烈，難免會引起黨內反彈。
他說，他參與馬華並在多屆大選出戰，並未看到類似激烈的情況。
林時清也是卸任國會下議院副議長，他23日在大馬華人百家姓研討會主持開幕儀式後，受記者詢問時這樣表示。
他虽然不满,但接受不參選安排.
他指出，他本身可以接受不參選的安排，並以黨的利益為重。
他說，不過，他仍接到許多選民、支持者，甚至是巫統國會議員的“慰問”。
他說，雖然沒有參選，但他仍會到柔州助選，大選後繼續履行馬華中委的責任，為黨服務。
民主行动党 的州法律顾问R.S.N. Rayer原本不获推选，便在22日早上10时在家里召开记者会说会以独立人士在北赖竞选，因为印度人在该党已被边缘化。
后来于下午在党主席卡巴星的干预下，拉也又获推选在斯里特利马州议席参选，因此在州总部召开另一个记者会收回他早上的决定及指责。他也向党因他较早的情绪失控而道歉。
轰动全国的冯保君弃选事件也可能是较早不获在華都牙也區國席竞选而造成的。
民主行動黨雪州副主席陳彼得，23日中午12時30分，突然宣佈退出民主行動黨，不接受挽留。
他從即日起，辭去行動黨一切的職位，包括雪州副主席、雪州公共投訴局副主任，及巴生公市支部主席一職。
為表退黨決心，他當著記者面對，當眾剪破其行動黨永久黨員證。他退黨的原因是覺得黨辜負了他，否定他一直以來的付出。
他在巴生公市支部會所召開新聞發佈會時說，他因為本身與黨中央理念不合，及發現黨中央未給予他100%的支持，而選擇退出行動黨，並另起爐灶，為巴生市民服務。
他指出，他加入行動黨至今已經19年，而且在巴生服務也有7年日子，但是發現黨中央對他純屬“利用”，未給予他真正的支持。
陳彼得是因为沒有機會在這次大選中参选而退黨.
他強調，他不會再涉及任何有關政治的圈子，也不會加入任何政黨，或以獨立人士身分參選。
他感謝一路以來支持他的選民，並表示會把支持他上陣的選民約7萬5000令吉的資金援助，全數歸還給選民，而且將會把當時選民送他一輛的服務客貨車轉賣，將錢轉捐給巴生4獨中。
此外，對於他已經準備競選的物品，他表示，將轉贈給在泗岩沫國會議席上陣的行動黨准候選人林立迎。
他承諾未來將會以本身名義，繼續為巴生市民服務。

看马华，看民主行动党，看巫统，它们所用的手法都不同。政治是要来搞的。但如果你是为了党，为了一个理念，为了一个承担，你就不会那么容易轻易放弃,也不会乱搞。
黃家定說，馬華派出多名新人上陣，因為這是為馬華注入新生力的方法，這與馬華一直強調新陳代謝的理念是相符的。
基本上，马华议员都接受有关的安排。卢诚国虽然不满，但都还是接受党的指示。发生在他身上的事情比较特别，因为他的户外广告牌被涂鸦，卢虽然有去报案，但这种事情一般上是不了了之的。有分析员批评指他是因为平时敢讲话，所以被换。
馬華中委拿督林時清說，這次馬華採用“新陳代謝”理念安排候選人陣容，過於激烈，難免會引起黨內反彈。
他說，他參與馬華並在多屆大選出戰，並未看到類似激烈的情況。
林時清也是卸任國會下議院副議長，他23日在大馬華人百家姓研討會主持開幕儀式後，受記者詢問時這樣表示。
他虽然不满,但接受不參選安排.
他指出，他本身可以接受不參選的安排，並以黨的利益為重。
他說，不過，他仍接到許多選民、支持者，甚至是巫統國會議員的“慰問”。

民主行動黨雪州副主席陳彼得，23日中午12時30分，突然宣佈退出民主行動黨，不接受挽留。
他從即日起，辭去行動黨一切的職位，包括雪州副主席、雪州公共投訴局副主任，及巴生公市支部主席一職。
為表退黨決心，他當著記者面對，當眾剪破其行動黨永久黨員證。他退黨的原因是覺得黨辜負了他，否定他一直以來的付出。
他在巴生公市支部會所召開新聞發佈會時說，他因為本身與黨中央理念不合，及發現黨中央未給予他100%的支持，而選擇退出行動黨，並另起爐灶，為巴生市民服務。
他指出，他加入行動黨至今已經19年，而且在巴生服務也有7年日子，但是發現黨中央對他純屬“利用”，未給予他真正的支持。
陳彼得是因为沒有機會在這次大選中参选而退黨.
他強調，他不會再涉及任何有關政治的圈子，也不會加入任何政黨，或以獨立人士身分參選。
他感謝一路以來支持他的選民，並表示會把支持他上陣的選民約7萬5000令吉的資金援助，全數歸還給選民，而且將會把當時選民送他一輛的服務客貨車轉賣，將錢轉捐給巴生4獨中。
此外，對於他已經準備競選的物品，他表示，將轉贈給在泗岩沫國會議席上陣的行動黨准候選人林立迎。
他承諾未來將會以本身名義，繼續為巴生市民服務。

刚在上周日抛下一枚炸弹，宣布本届大选不在任何议席上阵的民主行动党“小辣椒”冯宝君，今日峰回路转，脸上有泪痕与党顾问林吉祥陪同下召开记者会，由林吉祥宣布冯宝君重回原区竞选。
冯宝君在记者会上，对她之前的不参选决定，对支持者和党所造成的伤害致歉。
记者会原定在今午1时举行，冯宝君迟至下午1时50分才在丈夫陈正春的载送下，抵达怡保东区竞选中心（记者会地点）。
她抵达现场时，受到百多名支持者的热烈欢迎和欢呼。林吉祥则是在1时半左右到场。
冯宝君出现，明显消瘦和憔悴不少，脸上有泪痕，看来是被现场的支持者所感动了。
当她在陈正春的陪同下进场时，支持者高举双手，喊“小辣椒回来了”，“我爱你”等等，接着支持者陆续送上黄玫瑰和红玫瑰，以示对冯宝君的爱戴。

Cili Padi Fong Po Kuan has returned to the frontline of the 2008 “Electoral Battle of the Century” – to end the overpowering Umno political hegemony by denying the Barisan Nasional its unbroken two-thirds parliamentary majority in the March 8 general election.
The past six days since Po Kuan’s announcement that she would not recontest in Batu Gajah parliamentary seat had been an agonizing ordeal for Po Kuan, party leaders, members, supporters and the Malaysian public who see the general election as the last opportunity for change.
Whether at the national or state party leadership, there had never been a second name for the DAP candidature for Batu Gajah in the 12th general election apart from Po Kuan. All party and state leaders, together with the concerned Batu Gajah voters and the larger national constituency, had urged Po Kuan to reconsider and return to the frontline in the critical battle shaping up in the 12th general election.
One cannot run away from the reality that Po Kuan’s action had caused harm and damage to herself, the party and the cause for justice, freedom and democracy – although she never intended so.
I have had discussions with Po Kuan in the past two days and she had admitted to the great harm her action had unintentionally and unwittingly caused to the party, party leaders and the political momentum for change in the 12th general election, and she asks for the party and people’s forgiveness for her mistake.
She has now bounced back to the frontline of the Electoral Battle of the Century and will reconstest and defend the Batu Gajah parliamentary seat.

黄家定在记者会一开始即表示，在他宣布马华候选人名单之前，陈广才有一项重要消息要向媒体宣布。

In 2004, Putrajaya returned a parliamentarian with only 5079 voters. Just less than 100 kilometers away, Kapar (next to Klang) with 104,185 voters also returned one parliamentarian.
Such inequality is called mal-apportionment of constituencies. At the time of Independence, the Federal Constitution stipulated that seats should be as far as possible allocated equally to every state based on their population while the largest constituency within a state must not be more than 15% larger than the average seat and the smallest not more than 15% smaller.
In other words, the largest constituency in a state can at most be 1.35 times (115%/85%) the smallest.
The 1962 Constitutional Amendment repealed such limits and replaced with a much lenient requirement that a rural constituency cannot be smaller than 50% of an urban constituency in electorate size. .... it is no secret that such mal-apportionment aims to benefit UMNO whose power base was in the rural area.
The Federal Constitution was again amended in 1973 to do away the 50% cap. The Election Commission has since had a free hand in redistricting the constituencies.

Fong Po Kuan is not going to contest in the general election
Fong Po Kuan, dubbed cili padi because of her fiery style, has dropped a bombshell that has rocked the DAP – announcing that she is not going to contest in the general election.
The latest crisis to hit the opposition party is as a result of state party leaders trying to grab her Batu Gajah parliamentary seat.
“This crisis has been brewing for quite some time and it is unfortunate that it has exploded just before the general election,” said the insider, who is sympathetic to Fong.
Fong Po Kuan as appearing in her blog.
Her troubles with the other party leaders started when she defeated Barisan Nasional’s candidate Datuk Ong Ka Chuan in 2004 for the Batu Gajah seat.
“After her victory, Perak DAP leaders labelled Batu Gajah as an opposition stronghold and wanted her to give way to more senior leaders,” said one source.
Announcing her decision not to contest at a press conference at the Batu Gajah DAP office, Fong said her decision was final and suggested that incumbent Pasir Pinji assemblyman Thomas Su Keong Siong contest in her place.
This, according to party insiders, was a move by Fong to prevent state party leaders from nominating DAP Youth chief Nga Kor Ming, who is Pantai Remis assemblyman, to succeed her. It is well known that Fong does not get along with Nga or the state DAP led by his cousin Ngeh Koo Ham, the incumbent Sitiawan assemblyman.
“In fact, Fong and Ngeh are not on talking terms,” said one insider, adding that there were moves to even get Fong to contest in Johor, just because she married Johor DAP organising secretary Tan Chen Choon on Jan 12.
Another insider blamed Ngeh and Nga for freezing her out of the state party, which was why she resigned from the state committee last year.
The 34-year-old Fong, who is still the party’s assistant publicity secretary and Wanita DAP national organising secretary, refused to take many questions.
“The development of internal party events in the Perak DAP over the last few years and currently, has made it impossible for me to continue serving effectively and efficiently and wholeheartedly as a party leader and an elected representative,” she said.
She said it was a tough decision for her because the DAP had become her “second family” and the people of Batu Gajah had become special to her over the last eight years.
Fong tried to keep her emotions in check throughout the press conference but her voice broke as she read out her statement, especially when she described the DAP as her second family.
“Under such circumstances, and in the best interest of all concerned, I have arrived at this unavoidable and difficult decision. My decision is final.”
She said she had conveyed her decision to DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, who is also a member of the DAP National Committee on Candidate Selection, and written a letter to party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng about the matter.
Fong, who holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the International Islamic University, first came into national prominence when she won the Batu Gajah seat in the 1999 general election with a majority of 2,071 votes. At 26 years of age, she was the youngest MP then.

Abdullah likes 13
Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad likes 13 very much because it has played a significant part his life.
Parliament was dissolved on Feb 13.
Besides the Dewan Rakyat, 12 state assemblies with the exception of Sarawak were dissolved – bringing the total number of legislative bodies to 13.
It is no secret that 13 is Abdullah’s favourite number.
All his vehicles, be it private or official, have registration plates bearing the number 13.
His love for this particular number goes way back and his cars have been carrying the registration number 13 since he was a Foreign Minister.
“Yes, I like the number 13. It’s because nobody wants it. Those who are superstitious may say habislah if they get number 13.
“If people do not want it, let me take it,” he has said.
The number holds further significance as his daughter Nori’s birthday is on Jan 13, while that of her son and Abdullah’s only grandson, Jibreil Ali Jamaluddin Abu Bakar, who was born last year, is Sept 13.
This time the Election Commission gave 13 days for all parties to do their campaigning. The polling day is on March 8, and if Barisan were to be returned to power, Abdullah might also announce his new cabinet on Mar 13.
Meanwhile, four-digit punters are betting on the number 7224 and 6308 after the Election Commission set Feb 24 for parties to nominate candidates and March as the polling date.
The Star reported that a punter said that the first numbers 7224 denoted Sunday for the nomination day, while 6 in 6304 was for Saturday for polling date.
7224 has come out 12 times in Magnum since July 9, 1987 and latest draw was Mar 4, 2007 which is a consolation. 7224 came out second prize on August 23. 6308 is not that lucky, it only came out 4 times, 3 specials and 1 magnum.
George Town OCPD Asst Comm Azam Adb was quoted by The Star saying that the police will arrest those involved in illegal betting activities.
Under the Betting Act, this kind of behavior carries a RM 200,000 fine and a five-year jail term.

The Royal Commission of Inquiry is conducted to ascertain the authenticity of the Lingam video-clip and also to identify the speaker, the person he was speaking to and persons mentioned in the conversation. The terms of reference are also to ascertain the truth of the content of the conversation, to determine whether any person identified or mentioned in the clip committed any misbehaviour, and to recommend appropriate action against them.
This is one of the pictures produced at the Royal Commission of Inquiry. This picture showed that Datuk V.K. Lingam and the former Chief Justice Tun Eusoff Chin and their families were having a holiday in New Zealand in 1994. This is one of the most circulated pictures used by the media.
The above statement is one of the Lingam's most quoted statements by the media. Lingam's video clip believed to be about the judiciary. It has nothing to do with the Hong Kong celebrities. The video-clip is also not as sharp as the pictures shown in the Hong Kong celebrities.
The commissioners include: Chairman, Tan Sri Haidar Mohd Noor, Member, Tan Sri Steve Shim Lip Kiong, Datuk Mahadev Shankar, Puan Sri Zaitun Zawiyah Puteh, and Professor Emeritus Datuk Dr.Khoo Kay Kim.
At the point of writing, the commission has carried out 16 days of inquiry.
On February 12,2008, lawyer Datuk V.K. Lingam's former secretary G. Jayanti, 45,made a series of shocking revelations at the Royal Commission of Inquiry.
She testified that:
1. Lingam wrote judgment in Vincent Tan's case.
2. ACA closed case as it involved many high-ranking governement officials.
3. She arranged Lingam and Eusoff Chin's New Zealand trip.
4. She was accused of stealing one million Berjaya shares.

In another event involving entertainer Edison Chen, who is being reported in Sin Chew Daily that he will return to Hong Kong this week to explain the pictures of him with several starlets in compromising situations that have been circulating on the Internets.
This is Edison Chen. He has become a controvasial figure.
Chen's manager confirmed that the singer-actor would return today or tomorrow(February 15, 2008)to meet the press.
The manager declined to say whether Chen had run away because of the scandal, which had dominated headlines in the southern Chinese territory for several weeks.
Hundreds of photos-believed to be of Chen with a string of Hong Kong starlets, including Canto-pop and film star Gillian Chung, actress Cecilia Cheung and former actress Bobo Chan-had been circulated on the Internet.
This is Bobo Chan, one of the celebrities said to be involved in the sex scandal.
China Press reported that Cheung and her husband Nicholas Tse had signed a separation agreement after the photos surfaced.
Edison Chen Koon Hei's ex-girlfriend, Bobo Chan had retired from the entertainment industry and was intending on marrying into high society. However due to the recent online circulation of pornographic images of Bobo and Edison, her marriage plans may be been wrecked.
Bobo Chan, one of the Hong Kong female celebrities embroiled in the recent sex scandal involving Edison Chan had her wedding called off with wealthy stock market investor Phillip Kam. It was rumored that Bobo’s future mother-in-law was extremely displeased by Bobo’s implications in the scandal and gave pressure to her son Phillip to cancel the wedding. Bobo Chan already retired from the entertainment business earlier to get ready for her marriage. This sex scandal had dashed her dreams.
Gillian Chung of Twins was rumored to have attempted suicide twice already since the sex photo incidence. She, along with the other allegedly involved females, have not appeared in public since the scandal. EEG, the record company of Twins, have denied these rumors and stated that Gillian is just recuperating from an illness. Gillian was supposed to appear alongside her ‘twin’ Charlene Choi at a Chinese New Year Eve event but was absent. Charlene assures fans that Gillian will heal and be back.

Although Edison Chen had apologised and Gillian Chung had on February 11(Monday) made a brief statement that she was "naive and silly" and added that the incident had tormented and hurt her as well as the people around her. All other celebrities involved in the scandal have yet to make a statement.
The lesson learned is that if you are a celebrity, do not allow your partner to take pictures of the sex scenes otherwise there is a possibility that it will leak out to the internet world. But who leak them out and for what reason and purpose?
Rumors said that Kira will received 7 million HK dollars and will disappear forever. So it is for the money that Kira put up these photos in the internet. Must be, the pictures are being updated daily. How will Kira receive his reward is not for us to speculate. If this is a major extortion case, the Hong Kong Police will be able to arrest Kira in the near future. We might just enjoy the beauty of the pictures for free while we still can. In the near future, these pictures will probably be taken away from the Internet. Do not download these pictures because many of the pictures are too revealing and might not be permitted by the laws.
The Internet has turned into a monster. If you are rich and famous and if somebody were to get hold of your nude picture, you will be remembered by many for a while, if not forever. Of course, people have short memory, after a while, all these interesting events will be forgotten. But you will become a high profile person for a while and you might not like that kind of feeling and treatment.
It seems that all photos that we have seen thus far were screen captured from video. Gill’s photos were the first 10 minutes of the video. They said it was used as a bargaining chip for extortion. Photos of Vincy Yeung released on Feb 9, seems wanting to send EEG Music a message that they have more photos in hand. Edison’s photos all came in a set, and every woman has a complete collection. What Kira does is he will release in few numbers first, then release the complete set. Vincy’s pictures probably would also come in a set.
It is reported in the Internet that Kira is either in Thailand or Indonesia. Kira is a group of two, and these sex photos seems have been uploaded to the United States servers.
It is said that Vincy, C10 and Maggie Q are Kira’s ultimate chip, their pictures will not be released until it is really necessary.
When you follow Edison Chen’s news, you probably will know that he is also under tremendous pressure. How can he solve this problem? He has to stop Kira from continue to upload those pictures to the Internet. He might have to get out of entertainment industry. But what about other celebrities involved? They said if money can settle a problem, then it is not a problem. I am not suggesting anything. Not for me to suggest, I am just trying to do some mental exercises.

Announcement of nomination and polling will be done on Thursday
The Election Commission said it would announce polling and nomination day on Thursday at its office in Putrajaya.
The Election Commission held several meetings Wednesday in preparation for the Prime Minister's announcement of the dissolution of Parliament.
“We have got the declaration on the dissolution of Parliament by the Yang Di Pertuan Agong and the announcement of nomination and polling will be done tomorrow," said EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman.
When asked if nomination day was February 21 and election day on March 2nd, he said: “You can speculate anything you want. The official announcement is tomorrow.
“You wait for the official announcement,” he added.
Abdul Rashid also said, "We want to make sure of fairness in this election process. We will ensure the appropriate time and space is given for the parties to choose their candidates and for campaigning."
Election rules
The general election must be held within 60 days of Parliament being dissolved, in accordance with Article 55(4) of the Federal Constitution.
Once Dewan Rakyat is dissolved, the tenure of all MPs automatically ends, which also means that they stop enjoying the privileges, perks, and powers related to their function.
Until the next Parliament is convened, the country is run by a caretaker government.
The caretaker government's role is to keep the government machinery running, and should not involve making policy changes or formulating new legislation.

Parliament dissolved on Feb 13
KUALA LUMPUR: The market extended its gains in morning trade on Feb 13, with the KLCI hitting a high of 1,433, lifted by plantations stocks, ahead of the Prime Minister’s announcement that Parliament was dissolved for the general elections.
The Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's announcement surprises many. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak stood beside the Prime Minister.
At 12.30pm, the KLCI had risen 10.61 points to 1,428.13 points, the FBM Emas added 72.20 points to 9,672.45 points while the FBM Second Board eased 0.30 points to 6,638.40 points.
Turnover was at 515.08 million shares valued at RM1.02 billion. There were 319 gainers, 277 losers and 254 counters traded unchanged.
Asian markets were mixed. China markets fell when they resumed trading, with Shanghai A Share down 67 points or 1.4% to 4,59.76 points. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index jumped 466 points or 2.04% to 23,388.3 points, Singapore’s STI added 1.7% to 2,976.04 points, but South Korea’s Kospi fell 0.18% to 1,640.37 points.
US crude oil was trading at US$92.80 per barrel.
The ringgit was quoted RM3.232 to the US dollar.
At Bursa, heavyweight Maybank rose 10 sen to RM12.20, Telekom added 10 sen to RM11.70 while Tenaga was unchanged at RM9.20 while
Stocks in the UEM Group rose ahead of an announcement from UEM World that it would propose a material corporate exercise which would involve a significant change in the business direction of UEM World. The stocks are suspended in the afternoon until Friday.
“This proposed corporate exercise will also involve the securities of its listed subsidiaries, namely, UEM Builders, Opus Group, Pharmaniaga and Cement Industries of Malaysia,” it said.
UEM World rose 12 sen to RM4.12, CIMA added 25 sen to RM2.98 while Pharmaniaga jumped 68 sen to RM3.78 with 100 shares done. CCM added 25 sen to RM2.98.
KL Kepong added 50 sen to RM18.60, United Plantations 20 sen to RM13.70, Public Bank foreign 20 sen to RM11.50. Tanjong, Panasonic Malaysia and Zelan fell 20 sen each to RM15.90, RM11.50 and RM4.74 respectively.
When the market opened in the afternoon, many of the GLC are down, such as MRCB down 11 sen to RM 2.76, Timecom down 3 sen to 0.69, Equine down 14 sen to 2.01, KPS down 12 sen to 3.76, Bursa down 20 sen to 12.70, Time down 2.5 sen to 0.56, KUB down 2 sen to 0.895.
The KLCI started dropping in the afternoon, but rose 5.63 points to 1423.15, supported by blue chip advances. The broader market was softer with 561 decliners leading 273 risers.
