慕尤丁：法庭公平审案
未判决良实属清白

（吉隆坡30日讯）副首相丹斯里慕尤丁说，虽然交通部前部长敦林良实医生昨日被控欺骗政府，诱使内阁购买英达岛一片地段，但在法庭未对此案裁决前，林良实不能被视为有罪。
证明司法公正
“我们不应在法庭未裁决前，就认定他（林良实）有罪，应交由法庭程序审理此案。”
慕尤丁说，任何人被控后，在法庭下判前都是清白的，他相信，检控单位和司法机关，会公平和透明审理此案。
他强调对良实被控感到惊讶，但此事也证明国家法律及司法制度公正无私，透明及不偏袒任何人。 即使是来自国阵的前内阁部长，如涉及犯罪行为，也必须面对法律行动。
慕尤丁也是教育部长。 他今日为2010年第2届东协学校运动会大马队伍庆功会开幕后，在记者会受询时这么回应。
在回答另一项提问时，他说，他不知是否还会有人因自贸区弊案而被控。
“我没这方面资料，这交由检控单位决定。”
提及林良实被控涉及的欺骗案发生在2002年，为何迟至今天才被控，慕尤丁说，这关系到检控单位进行调查和司法程序问题。
“当检控单位认为，已到了适当提出控诉的时间，当局就会采取行动。”
针对反对党将对此事做出批评，他反指反对党在法庭的裁决不利他们时，便会随意做出指责，如指司法不公正等，但他有信心我国司法制度会对平平对所有人。

（布城29日讯）交通部前部长兼前马华总会长敦林良实医生，今日因为巴生港口自由贸易区弊案，被控欺骗罪名。
他被控于2002年9月25日至2002年11月6日，在首相署4楼欺骗大马政府，诱使内阁同意以10亿8845万6000令吉，购买英达岛占地4353万8200平方尺地段，作为巴生港口特区巨型工程。
他否认有罪，获准以100万令吉保外候审；地庭法官苏珊娜胡申订案9月3日过堂。
次名被控马华总会长
现年67岁的林良实面对一项主要控状及一项交替控状。 他也是国内首位被控以刑事罪的“敦”级前部长，且是第2名被控的马华总会长。
首名被控的马华总会长是陈群川，他在1985年因轰动一时“新泛电事件”被判在马新两地坐牢。
控状指出，当时任交长的林良实所告知内阁的买地条件：
a.土地面积为999.5英亩。
b.土地以每平方尺25令吉价格购买，或总值10亿8845万6000令吉。
c.摊还期限为15年，利息为每年7.5%（总值7亿2001万4600令吉）。
控状指出，他蓄意隐瞒财政部资产评估与服务局提供资料，即有关若以10年摊还，购地价格是每平方尺25令吉；至于15年的摊还期，每平方尺土地则是25令吉82仙。 上述数目也包括摊还期间所征收利息。
指控蓄意诱使同意
控状指出，被告蓄意诱使内阁同意有关土地买卖，如果内阁知道真正的情况，将不会批准有关买卖。
控状指被告在这项欺骗中，已了解这将对大马政府造成损失，他的行为已牴触刑事法典第418条文。
在这项条文下，罪成者可面对最高7年监禁或罚款或两者兼施。
另外，林良实也面对刑事法典第417条文的交替控状。 在此控状下，罪成者判处最高5年的监禁、或罚款或两者兼施。
首次踏足司法宫
林良实有信心
林良实接受记者访问时，表示对司法有信心。

PUTRAJAYA: Former Transport Minister and MCA president Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik has become the highest-ranking person yet to be charged with cheating the Government over the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal and he pleaded not guilty.
The party stalwart — the fifth person to be charged over the PKFZ saga — is out on a RM1mil bail after appearing at the Sessions Court here yesterday.
Accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Ena Ling and sons Hee Leong and Hee Keat, Dr Ling later told reporters that he had faith in the country’s judicial system.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said he was shocked by the charge, but expressed confidence that Dr Ling would get a fair trial.

KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has called on bloggers to adhere to a certain code of ethics and ensure their blog articles are backed by truth in order for blogs to become a respected medium for the betterment of the society.
The former prime minister said the blogging ethics should be voluntary because these were for the bloggers' own good and from which they would build their reputation in the eyes of the people.
Dr Mahathir, himself a blogger, said the society had access to blogs, a medium which he said was "almost beyond the control of any authority", and that if bloggers were ethical and wrote the truth, more people would make blogs their source of information.
If bloggers adhered to these ethics, he said, "I think eventually people will come to respect blogs."
"If we are not saying the truth, people will desert blogs like (how they desert) the ordinary media today," he said in his keynote address at the Asian Bloggers and Social Media Conference 2010, here Wednesday.
The two-day conference, themed "Reflections of the Social Media Revolution", is being attended by about 400 people across Asia.
Dr Mahathir said although bloggers were free to blog what they want, they should do so in a responsible manner and not abuse the medium.
"(Bloggers) should not say nasty things or curse people; don't do that because people will get annoyed and they can take action against you," he said, adding that "even if we don't like a person, we should not say things which are not true (about that person)."
Dr Mahathir, who runs a popular blog at chedet, said it was imperative for bloggers to be able to back what they said.
He said although bloggers had the advantage in terms of freedom, they must make use of the freedom to shape the opinion towards building a better world community and for the betterment of the people.
"No one can stop or correct you because you are in charge; you are the writer, the editor and the publisher... when you have the weapons, don't use it indiscriminately.
"Bloggers must always exercise restraint and avoid anything that is not true and things that hurt people," he said. - Bernama

拉里萨非常忙碌，在拍摄写真集之前，还应邀为一家手机公司搞搞宣传，施展她以双峰夹住手机的招牌动作。

说的是在南非世界杯足球赛一炮而红的巴拉圭名模乳神拉里萨。
拉里萨曾经许诺，如果西班牙夺得世界杯冠军，她将来一次裸奔，日期就在7月24日；就在裸奔日倒数两天，网络外流出她之前拍摄写真集的幕后花絮，也让人过瘾一把。
从世界杯“发迹”，并如愿成为“世界级”名模的乳神拉里萨，之前曾表示，如果家乡巴拉圭夺冠，她就裸奔，结果，巴拉圭不幸在8强止步；她改口宣布，如果西班牙赢，她也要奔！后来又说，她觉得巴拉圭队的球员很辛苦，所以也要为这群球员“裸”一下。
这样前前后后算起来，乳神应该要裸奔两次才合理，一次庆祝西班牙夺冠，一次慰劳巴拉圭球员。

SEVERAL websites are abuzz with news that Malaysian millionaire Taek Jho Low is the “mystery man” spotted with good-time girl Paris Hilton, reported Kosmo!
The Malay tabloid said the websites, including that of OK! Magazine, had identified Hilton as the girl in a sexy pink outfit in a photograph of partygoers aboard a boat in Paris, France.
According to the magazine, Low had been splashing his money, holding expensive parties in various nightclubs and running up huge shopping bills.
The New York Post had reported on Nov 8 last year that Low, who is in his 20s and a graduate from Wharton Business School in Philadelphia, spent thousands of dollars in nightclubs over a three-month period in the United States.
He caught media attention after being spotted partying with several celebrities, including singer P. Diddy, in the city.
According to the operator of Pink Elephant Club at 27th Street in New York, Low always spent between US$50,000 (RM161,150) and US$60,000 (RM193,380) a night, including flying eight waitresses to a party in Malaysia once.
He was rumoured to be staying in a posh apartment in Park Imperial in the city, where James Bond actor Daniel Craig and P. Diddy also lived.
Low, whose own recent birthday party was attended by actress Megan Fox, was said to be working as a consultant with a few international companies.
Although The Post interviewed various Malaysian experts, including members on the Foreign Relationship Council about Low, none had heard of him.

The woman, who is said to be in her 20s, had even posted photographs of herself in sexy poses in order to lure men.

Businessman Azahar Omar, 32, who claimed he had been trying to “trap” the woman, said she had promised to meet him in Kedah after he banked in RM150.
The following day, she had requested another RM100 so she could meet him in Butterworth but she did not turn up.

1. When we appointed an International Advisory Panel of prominent IT personalities from around the world, we gave a guarantee that Malaysia would not censor the Internet.
2. We thought at that time that even if we wanted to, we couldn't. The technology was not available for us to do this. And so Malaysiakini and other sites flourished.
3. Now that I have retired I feel glad that we made the decision not to censor. I have benefited much from the blogs as have very many bloggers. There may be a few who have abused this blogging privilege but by and large it has served the public well. The mainstream media in Malaysia need no censoring as they censor themselves. So the blogs can report what really happens. It can be the alternative source of news. And there is a need for this other source for the mainstream media will always be guarding their behind.
4. I had always assumed that the Western press is free. Certainly they have never been in any way constrained when writing about the third world including Malaysia.
5. Now, I know better. Robert Fisk, one of the great Western journalists has revealed that when writing about their own countries and about the West in general they adhere to official sources and use clichés which masked the truth. They too indulge in self-censoring. I recommend that everyone interested in the so-called freedom of the press should read his book - The Age of The Warrior.
6. Press freedom is supposed to be an essential part of the practice of Western Democracy. The assumption is that with press freedom truth will prevail. But the freedom is also about telling lies, about promoting evil agendas, demonizing individuals, twisting facts, hounding people to death and all other kinds of evil.
7. The Internet has now given not just journalists but given just about anyone the same capacities to tell the truth, to lie and twist facts and do all the good and evil things. There is no censoring the Internet.
8. But I am concerned about the dissemination of pornographic material. I am concerned because there can be no doubt that sex related crimes are more common today due to the easily excitable young having access to filthy pornographic material. Sexual immorality among youths is more common today than ever before.
9. Something has to be done to the Internet's promotion of immorality. The world community should agree that the promotion of pornography via the Internet should be stopped. Failing this Malaysia should censor all pornographic material on the Internet, guarantees notwithstanding.
10. It is possible to do this now and it should be done. It will not be 100% successful but it will prevent easy access at least. Moral decay should not be allowed to be promoted. Certainly moral decay should not be speeded up via the Internet.

快樂其實是一種習慣
一大早，我跳上一部計程車，要去台北郊區做企業內訓。
因正好是尖峰時刻，沒多久車子就卡在車陣中，
此時前座的 司機先生開始不耐地嘆起氣來。
隨口和他聊了起來：「最近生意好嗎？」
後照鏡的臉垮了下來，聲音臭臭的：
「有什麼好？到處都不景氣，你想我們計程車生意會好嗎？
每天十幾個時，也賺不到什麼錢，真是氣人！」
嗯，顯然這不是個好話題，換個主題好了，我想。
於是我說：「不過還好你的車很大很寬敞，即便是塞車，也讓人覺得很舒服……」
他打斷了我的話，聲音激動了起來：
「舒服個鬼！不信你來每天坐12個小時看看，看你還會不會覺得舒服！？」
接著他的話匣子開了，抱怨政府無能、社會不公，所以人民無望。
我只能安靜地聽，一點兒插嘴的機會也沒。
兩天後同一時間，我再一次跳上了計程車，再一次地要去郊區同一家企業做訓練，
然而這一次，卻開啟了迥然不同的經驗。
一上車，一張笑容可掬的臉龐轉了過來，
伴隨的是輕快愉悅的聲音：「你好，請問要去哪?」
真是難得的親切，我心中有些訝異，隨即告訴了他目的地。
他笑了笑：「好，沒問題！」
然而走沒兩步，車子又在車陣中動彈不得了起來。
前座的 司機 先生手握方向盤，
開始輕鬆地吹起口哨哼起歌來，顯然今天心情不錯。
於是我問：「看來你今天心情很好嘛！」
他笑得露出了牙齒：「我每天都是這樣啊，每天心情都很好。」
「為什麼呢？」我問：「大家不都說景氣差，工作時間長，收入都不理想嗎？」
司機先生說：「沒錯，我也有家有小孩要養，所以開車時間也跟著拉長為12個小時。
不過，日子還是很開心過的，我有個祕密……」
他停頓了一下：「說出來先生你別生氣，好嗎？」
當然好，只要是快樂的祕密，我這個念過心理學的都感興趣。
他說：「我總是換個角度來想事情。例如，我覺得出來開車，
其實是客人付錢請我出來玩。像今天一早，我就碰到像你這樣的先生，
花錢請我跟你到陽明山去玩，這不是很好嗎？
等下到了陽明山，你去辦你的事，而現在是花季，
我就正好可以順道賞賞花，抽根菸再走啦！」
他繼續說：「像前幾天哦，有一對情侶去淡水看夕陽，他們下車後，
我也下來喝碗魚丸湯，擠在他們旁邊看看夕陽才走，
反正來都來了嘛，更何況還有人付錢呢？」
漂亮！多精采的一個祕密！
我突然意識到自己有多幸運，一早就有這份榮幸，
跟前座的EQ高手同車出遊，真是棒極了。
又能坐車，心情又開心，這樣的服務有多難得，
我決定跟這位 司機先生要電話，以後再邀他一起出遊。
接過他名片的同時，他的手機鈴聲正好響起，
有位老客人要去機場，原來喜歡他的不只我一位，
相信這位EQ高手的工作態度，不但替他贏得好心情，也必定帶進許多生意。
快樂其實是一種習慣
心理學家發現，快樂其實是一種習慣，不論環境怎麼變，
EQ高手的快樂決心是不會改變的。
當我們能換一種心態去看待自己的工作，
並帶著遊戲般的愉快心情面對工作，你會發覺自己的內在能量強大許多，
抗壓應變的功力也因此大為增進，而這，也正是貫徹快樂決心的漂亮做法。
我自己就常覺得，工作其實是一種偽裝，讓我有很好的藉口及機會，
能因著演講及各種活動，去認識許許多多有趣精彩的人，這不是很過癮嗎？
（更何況，往往還有人付錢呢！）。

数百封未寄出的信件，被弃于空置店屋厕所。
（马六甲12日讯）数百封未盖上邮戳的信件，被发现丢弃于空置店屋的厕所。
这些信件相信是寄信人投入路旁的邮筒，等候邮差收集后，送到邮政总局处理。可是，这些信件在送往邮政总局之前，不知为何会被丢弃于空置店屋内。
被弃的信件中，不下百封是马六甲华校教师公会召开会员大会的通知函；除此，也包括不少信件，是ING保险公司寄出的。
会员未到通知信
有关信件是被丢弃在甘榜拉班马六甲广场其中一间空置店屋的厕所。
据马六甲华校教师公会主席吴南德校长指出，该会于今年4月间召开会员大会，除了发出通知函外，该会也通过电话联络一些会员，结果发现不少会员没有收到有关通知信。
他说，该会会员超过500名，除了会员大会通知函外，该会也同时发出会员子女奖励金申请表格。
吴氏说，今年出席大会的人数刚好足够法定人数，出席率比往年低，相信是会员没有收到信件的关系。
他指出，由于许多会员都没有收到信件，令公会感到莫名其妙，在会议中，会员也有提及这项问题，并怀疑是邮误引起的。
该会执行秘书熊炯棠告诉《中国报》，该会于今年 4月25日召开会员大会，通知信必须在不少过14天的时间内寄出。
他说，他寄出的通知函超过500封，于4月初分作3次，分别投入马六甲拉也邮政分局以及峇樟三角路的邮筒。
他指出，大约在那段时期，他有听说一些邮差因加薪问题怠工，因而不收集路旁邮筒的信件或者延迟收集。但对于该会的信件被丢弃事件，他不知是否与邮差怠工事件有关。
吴良山要求邮局调查
针对数百封信件被丢弃事件，民主行动党格西当区州议员吴良山将向甲州邮政总局反映，并要求展开调查。
他说，许多邮件被弃而没有送到收信人手上，造成讯息无法传达给收信人，肯定会造成寄信人与收信人面对不便，甚至蒙受损失。
因此，他希望邮政局方面能深入展开调查，为何多达数百封的信件，会被丢弃在空置店屋内。
在服务与管理方面，吴良山希望邮政局能作出改善，以便为市民提供更有效率的服务，以免让市民失去信心。

英国石油利用海底机械人更换堵塞墨西哥湾漏油油井的井盖，预料数天内可以完成。
工程人员遥控操作海底机械人，移走现时覆盖漏油油井的井盖，计划再盖上另一个更大的井盖，以助漏油接驳泵上离开水底 1.6公里的收集船上，预计4至7天完成，但工程进行期间的2天内，可能再有5百万加仑原油漏入海中。
发言人强调，如果计划顺利，预计最快星期一开始可以收集所有漏油，但这个仍然是暂时性方法，目前也不知道是否成功。

因为决心要退出私会党而甘心被教训的，是新山宽柔中学高中二的一名林姓男学生。

林同学周五（7月9日）晚间在新山中央医院受访时透露，他在去年时和朋友加入了一个私会党，但一直很少参与党的活动。
决心退党愿被罚打
今年，他经过一番思考后决心要退党，但对方以被打一顿做为代价，他唯有无奈接受。
对方约了林同学在周五傍晚6时在学校大门口见面后“行刑”，林同学在放学后等待赴约。
对方依时来到，几辆车子载了二三十个人，把林同学一起带上车，并载到百万镇附近的甘榜诗尼邦内一个偏僻的红树林芭内。林同学在车上时，也脱掉了校服，换上了一件汗衫。
这二三十人是年龄介于十几岁到30岁左右的男子，皆是校外人士，而当中有两三人与林同学相识的。
林同学说，这群男子中，只有一人负责动手，其他人只是围观。平常是戴着眼镜的林同学，这时唯有脱下眼镜，准备接受“刑罚”。
钓竿被充做刑器
本来说好是被空手打的，但动手的男子却随手拿到一支相信是被钓友弃置的竹制钓竿，就用钓竿充做刑器，往他的头和身上狂揍。
林同学无法记得对方打了多久，只知道待对方打够了，他们一群人就散去，不理他的死活，把已经满身是血的他一人丢在渺无人烟的树林中。
全身浴血幸有人经过获救
全身浴血的林同学被弃置不顾后，幸好遇到有人经过，才被带去疗伤，否则后果不堪设想。
傍晚6时50分左右，26岁的戴姓男子和妻子，以及友人及友人的老婆等4人，分乘两辆摩哆车，在诗尼邦海边嬉水后准备回家。
戴氏无意间发现林同学独自一人垂着头坐在地上，起初以为林同学跑步跑得太喘而坐下休息，但当他发现穿着红色汗衫的林同学其实全身是血时，便大感事态不妙。
好心人载往疗伤报案
戴氏大概了解了发生什么事后，就说要带林同学去报案，但林同学因为担心会再被教训而不愿意，戴氏唯有先把林同学带到百万镇的诊所疗伤，并联系上了林父。
林父也辗转联系上马青新山区团团长柯松达，并在柯松达的安排下在新山中央医院召开新闻发布会，揭发私会党的狠手段。
设防校园私会党特工队马青首接投诉
柯松达透露，其实马青在半年前就成立了“防范校园私会党特工队”，这是此队接获的第一起投诉。
他表示，他已和马华新山区会主席暨教育部副部长拿督魏家祥汇报此事，此外，他也会带林同学去见柔佛州总警长拿督莫达，让警方着手彻查此案。
他也呼吁任何被私会党威胁的学生，应该和马青联络，而不要贸贸然私下去受刑，马青在警方的配合下，为做为学生的后盾。

Louisiana, June 21 (Reuters) - BP Plc estimates that a worst-case scenario rate for the Gulf of Mexico oil spill could be about 100,000 barrels of oil per day, according to an internal company document released Sunday by a senior U.S. congressional Democrat.
Its estimate of up to 100,000 barrels (4.2 million gallons/15.9 million liters) of oil per day is far higher than the current U.S. government estimate of up to 60,000 barrels (2.5 million gallons/9.5 million liters) gushing daily from the ruptured offshore well into the sea.
BP spokesman Toby Odone said the document appeared to be genuine but the estimate applied only to a situation in which a key piece of equipment called a blowout preventer is removed.
"Since there are no plans to remove the blowout preventer, the number is irrelevant," he said.
The British energy giant, still struggling to stop a leak that began on April 20 and is causing an economic and environmental disaster along the U.S. Gulf Coast, is planning to raise $50 billion to cover the cost of the largest oil spill in U.S. history, London's Sunday Times reported.
The oil spill is now in its 62nd day and has dealt a blow to fishing and tourism industries across four Gulf states, soiling coastlines that are a playground for tourists and vital habitat for wildlife.
The amount of oil spurting from the well has been a matter of considerable controversy in the past two months, with critics saying BP consistently understated the flow rate.
The internal BP document, which is undated, was released by U.S. Representative Ed Markey, chairman of a subcommittee of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
The document appears to estimate the highest potential flow of oil if key components of the well fail. It does not indicate that the 100,000 barrels per day is BP's estimate of the actual amount gushing from the ruptured Gulf of Mexico well.
"Right from the beginning, BP was either lying or grossly incompetent," Markey told NBC's "Meet the Press."
"First they said it was only 1,000 barrels, then they said it was 5,000 barrels."
But BP's Odone said, "I don't think there's been any underestimating. We've always said we would deal with whatever volume of oil was being spilled and that's exactly what we're doing."

（槟城8日讯）由于遭受国内外的种种问题困扰，如1997年、1998年和近年的金融风暴袭击和影响，前马来西亚首相敦马哈迪认为，马来西亚的 2020年宏愿或许无法达至，除非国家更换发展策略！
他说，上述的国际问题已影响了大马成长，因为要达至2020年宏愿，大马必须连继30 年，每年都取得7%成长率。明显的，我国并无法保持这成长率。
他认为，如果我国更换策略，这或许可成功，但这必须进行深入探讨，采取何种政策以便使到国家取得显著成长。
他相信，仍有许多可取的方式，但我们必须绞尽脑汁的去想，直到找出使国家继续取得高成长之策。
他是周四在太子贸易中心接受第1电视台针对主题为“我们的第10大马计划”访问，并被主持人询及还有9年，就是国家2020年的宏愿目标期限，这是否可达至时，如是指出。
当主持询及敦马哈迪是否可有任何想法可提供参考时，他笑言，本身的确有许多想法，但今已不再是首相，如果人们愿意接受就接受吧！如果是过去那可是容易之件，一有想法就直接落实而已。
土著须纠正本身态度
尽管国家已迈入第10大马计划，然而针对土著议程仍然存在，询及为何会如此时，他表示，会出现这问题主要是因为土著本身态度和生活价值观问题，它必须获得纠正，而这也是可以改正，只要是获得严正看待。
“一旦发现任何人出售汽车开放进口准证（AP）和承包工程，那就取回向他们所出的执照。”只要获得严正看待，他相信这将培训出认真的土著企业家。而一些土著在跨国公司里出任首席执行员和高职就是最好的证明，但他坦诚人数却不多。
他相信，只要耐心等待加上这些人士的认真上进，他们将取得迅速成长。
敦马哈迪认为，就算那些拥有巫统治背景者也不应该轻易获得汽车开放进口准证。
他回忆过去曾要求禁止发出汽车开放进口准证（AP），这是因为他发现一些县署中的巫统工作人员每人每月都获得10张汽车开放进口准证，每张他们出售8000 令吉，换言之每月他们可从中获得8万令吉。
重检政联公司 是否乖离目标
敦马哈迪认为，我国有必要重新检讨，是否政府关联公司（GLC）已乖离了当初原有目的。
“我们必须明白，许多国民都对政府关联公司的表现感到不满。我们看起来，有如不时都抄袭新加坡。”他提醒说，新加坡的政府关联公司也面对亏损，新加坡也并非时常都获利。
他说，在未成立政府关联公司前，国库控股有限公司和国民投资有限公司的成立，主要为照顾土著股权。
“惟当给予土著股票时，土著却出售手中的股票牟利。”
马来人不善理财 获得金钱就挥霍
对于吉隆坡的新村发展，敦马哈迪认为其他种族也应获得参与发展。
“我们不能规定其他种族的参与发展是40%或是50%，但多少都必须获得他们的参与，因为这将成为一种吸引力。”
他说，如果没有其他种族的参与，马来人也不会前往，因为一般都认为马来人不善于经营。”
被询及尽管马来西亚已独立50年，然而前40名首富中，仍鲜少看到马来人，敦马哈迪认为，这是因为马来人仍无法控制他们挥霍的欲望。
他曾经被一名华裔告知，马来人只要获得金钱就挥霍，而且不善于理财，就算那些钱还未成为本身金钱也挥霍。

1. I first met Tun Omar Ong Yoke Lin when I was the President of the Kedah Anti-Tuberculosis Association. He was distributing Government funds for various charitable organisations. He was at that time a Minister in Tunku's Government. It was 1962. The little ceremony was held at his official residence.
2. Ong Yoke Lin was one of the leaders of the Kuala Lumpur branch of the MCA. Together with Tun H.S. Lee, he met Dato Yahya Abdul Razak the leader of UMNO Kuala Lumpur and they agreed that their parties would co-operate in the 1952 Kuala Lumpur Municipal Elections. They would not compete against each other but would support each other against the Independence of Malaya Party of Dato Onn, the Labour Party and a few Indian independents.
3. The UMNO/MCA co-operation in the Municipal Elections was a resounding success. It was this which led the Tunku to set up the Alliance Party, consisting of UMNO and MCA for the whole country. Later it was joined by the MIC for the 1955 elections.
4. Tun Omar went on to serve in the Tunku's Cabinet and later became Ambassador to Washington. There I met him again when I was Malaysia's delegate to the UN General Assembly in 1965.

1. I first met Tun Omar Ong Yoke Lin when I was the President of the Kedah Anti-Tuberculosis Association. He was distributing Government funds for various charitable organisations. He was at that time a Minister in Tunku's Government. It was 1962. The little ceremony was held at his official residence.
2. Ong Yoke Lin was one of the leaders of the Kuala Lumpur branch of the MCA. Together with Tun H.S. Lee, he met Dato Yahya Abdul Razak the leader of UMNO Kuala Lumpur and they agreed that their parties would co-operate in the 1952 Kuala Lumpur Municipal Elections. They would not compete against each other but would support each other against the Independence of Malaya Party of Dato Onn, the Labour Party and a few Indian independents.
3. The UMNO/MCA co-operation in the Municipal Elections was a resounding success. It was this which led the Tunku to set up the Alliance Party, consisting of UMNO and MCA for the whole country. Later it was joined by the MIC for the 1955 elections.
4. Tun Omar went on to serve in the Tunku's Cabinet and later became Ambassador to Washington. There I met him again when I was Malaysia's delegate to the UN General Assembly in 1965.

Former premier Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has dismissed his predecessor Dr Mahathir Mohamad's allegations that he had 'given away' two large oil rich areas to Brunei. In a statement late this afternoon, Abdullah said the resources in the 'Block L and M' oil-rich areas in the South China Sea referred to by Mahathir were now shared by Malaysia and Brunei under a territorial and commercial deal inked on March 16 last year. Although Block L and M were now the sovereign rights of Brunei, Malaysia will be allowed to participate in joint efforts to develop oil and gas resources there for 40 years. According to Abdullah, the deal was meant to resolve protracted land and maritime boundaries.
KUALA LUMPUR, April 30 — Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi denied today that he signed away oil rights to Brunei after a scathing attack from his predecessor Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
The former prime minister issued a statement today denying Dr Mahathir’s accusation that he had given up RM320 billion in potential oil earnings in return for Brunei dropping its claim over Limbang in Sarawak.
Dr Mahathir had claimed Abdullah had given away Malaysia’s claim to oil offshore of Limbang following a trip to Bandar Seri Begawan in the waning days of his administration last year.
Abdullah said today that the areas known as Block L and Block M would be jointly developed by the two countries for a period of 40 years.
“The financial and operational modalities for giving effect to this arrangement will be further discussed by the two sides. This means that in so far as the oil and gas resources are concerned, the agreement is not a loss for Malaysia,” said Abdullah in his statement.
The country’s fifth prime minister clarified that his visit to Brunei which was made three weeks before his departure was aimed at solving a long standing border dispute “without any disadvantage for Malaysia.”
The visit resulted in an agreement between the two countries to establish a permanent land and sea boundary.
“This agreement serves to settle certain overlapping claims which existed in the past which included the area of the concession blocks known before as Block L and Block M. Sovereign rights to the resources in this area now belongs to Brunei.
“However, for this area the agreement includes a commercial arrangement under which Malaysia will be allowed to participate, on a commercial basis, to jointly develop the oil and gas resources in this area for a period of 40 years,” said Abdullah.
He added that he signed the agreement to solve a border dispute with Brunei with prior approval from the Cabinet.
“In my capacity as the Prime Minister of Malaysia, I signed the Exchange of Letters with the Sultan of Brunei after the Malaysian Cabinet approved the deal on 11 February 2009,” said Abdullah.
Earlier today both former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and the DAP’s Lim Kit Siang demanded an explanation from Abdullah after news reports emerged last week suggesting Malaysia had signed away its oil rights.
Murphy Oil, which had entered a production-sharing contract with national oil company Petronas, for Block L and Block M offshore of Limbang, announced last week that it was ceasing operations because “it was no longer part of Malaysia.”
“Abdullah Badawi negotiated with the Sultan (of Brunei) to get back Limbang in Sarawak. In return he agreed to surrender the two blocks to Brunei. No Petronas representatives were present, only foreign office staff and the foreign affairs adviser to the PM,” Dr Mahathir had said in a posting on his blog yesterday.

自 19世纪中叶两次鸦片战争以来，中西方之间的关系就一直模糊不清，甚至自相矛盾。鸦片战争引发了中国人的复杂情绪，既有反帝国主义的民族主义情怀，也有厌憎本国落后、盲目崇拜西方的心理。20世纪早期，随着清王朝的垮台，一些中国文人认为中国因军事、经济和文化方面的疲弱而成了外国列强蚕食鲸吞的对象。对此，他们提出的解决方法却是：只有“全盘西化”才能救中国，摈弃儒学等传统观念，接受西方的体制和价值观──也就是所谓的“德先生”（民主）和“赛先生” （科学）。
2006 年，卡萝琳·斯瓦兹(Caroline Swartz)受雇成为北京一家中资公关公司的项目经理。她在那儿干了一年，但大部分时间没有任何具体工作任务，只需要安静地坐在会议室里列席会议就行了。
她常常根本不知道会议内容是什么、甚至不知道客户是什么人，就被叫去开会。开完会以后，又会被告知回到自己的座位上。
现在在纽约上学的斯瓦兹说：“我被摆在那里，很显眼，但没有任何职责。”
她说，自己之所以什么都不用做就能拿工资，只在于她是白人。那家公司的客户有中国的也有外国的，她这个白人的出现可以让公司显得更国际化一些。
这样的商业策略或许不能算“政治正确”，却反映出中西方之间的新态势：西方人，尤其是白种人，目前在中国的一些工作机会是因为某些中国公司想利用他们来彰显一种高级别、高层次的形象。
中国人这种自大又自卑的复杂心理即便在1949年毛泽东宣布“中国人民从此站起来了”，也未彻底消解。过去30多年，中国迅速成为了经济大国，但这种心理也依然萦绕不去。这表现为：中国在国际舞台上要求西方给予自身更多尊重，但一些中国人内心却仍认为西方人高人一等。
不过，我认为这样的态度在中国年轻一代中已经有所转变，尤其是在大城市。
二三十年前，西方人可以去专门为他们服务的酒店、餐馆和百货商店，并以名为“外汇券”的特殊货币付款。现在，在餐馆和商场出手阔绰、享用香槟、名牌服装和豪华汽车的往往是中国人。
但是，即便在北京和上海，与西方人共事或交往的中国人在服务人员那里遭到冷遇也并不鲜见。一些餐馆会把好位置留给西方人，并优先为他们提供服务。我的一位朋友嫁了个欧洲人，住在北京一幢公寓楼里，她忘记带门卡时会被保安盘诘，而保安却从未要求她先生出示门卡。事实上，我这位朋友才是业主。
一些中国人甚至利用这种崇洋心理。
中国一家跨国制造企业的高管（中国籍，持美国绿卡）就有一套“白人战略”：当他去小城市谈生意时，一定会带一位白人下属。
他说，如果有白人同行，当地人一定会给他们更好的待遇。同行的白人下属通常是工程师，开会时无需张口发言。但由于他的在场，无形之中办事就顺利多了，至少气氛会更友好一些。
即便是这个“白人战略”也有个小缺陷：地方上的人第一次与他们见面时，一开始总是以为那位白人是老板，这位高管是翻译。但这名高管说，只要生意能成，他就不介意。
对于一些被雇佣来实施“白人战略”的白人来说，这种情况下的感受并不好。斯瓦兹就觉得自己在公司里被人当成小孩子，甚至是动物园里供人参观的动物。但她当时非常需要这份工作来抚养自己出生不久的孩子。
直到公司里的一位经理偶然听到她说普通话之后，她才开始承担诸如负责客户关系等职责。斯瓦兹说，显然，他们雇她之前连简历都没看过。要知道，她在移居中国之前学习了八年的普通话。
不过她也认为，白人感受一下种族歧视是好事，因为世界上大多数人都会面临这一问题，而且那种“感觉不好受”。
我那位朋友的欧洲丈夫看待这一问题的角度有所不同。我问他对于保安对他的态度比对他妻子好有何看法，他说这没什么。他觉得保安应当像对他一样对待所有人，不过，除非中国人学会更尊敬农民工和穷人，否则这种情况不会改变。
我觉得他说的有一些道理。

Blogger:Telekom must set up a strong technical support team so that it will satisfy the needs of the customer. I have encountered some problems with TMNet streamyx service recently. My service was disrupted from Friday to Monday. I kept complaining to TMNet at that time but they simply cannot help. This is just weird because we are in the internet world and the service cannot be just cut off for few days. If this is so, how are we going to carry out our business activities thru the internet?

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin wants the Home Ministry to investigate Suara Perkasa, the newsletter of Malay rights group Perkasa, for inciting unrest.
The group, in the newsletter, has demanded that Deputy Education Minister Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong be detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).
"Asking for Ka Siong to be detained under the ISA is deliberately instigating (hatred) and the ministry should look into it," he said, adding that it was wrong to instigate with inflammatory articles.
Khairy told reporters at the Parliament lobby Thursday that while it was alright for Perkasa to fight for Malay rights, he did not agree with its methods.
On whether Perkasa leaders should be detained under the ISA instead, Khairy said he stood by his view that the the ISA be amended and hence, could not support the suggestion.
Suara Perkasa, to be launched Thursday, carries a front-page headline, "Tahan Ka Siong Bawah ISA" (Arrest Ka Siong under ISA), an online news portal reported.
The news portal, quoting Perkasa vice-president Dr Zubir Harun at a press conference, said the movement wanted the Government to arrest Dr Wee for allegedly saying Mara (scholarships) had to be reduced.
It was previously reported that Dr Wee had asked if the Mara scholarships would also be scrapped, as part of the Government's intention to do away with overseas scholarships offered by the Public Service Department (PSD).
Dr Wee has dismissed the allegation that he was questioning the special positions of the Malays.
Meanwhile, Dr Wee said he was not intimidated by Perkasa's call for him to resign or apologise.
"Why should I apologise? That is not the statement that I made. They make it an issue. I already explained it yet they play up the issue," he told reporters after chairing the MCA Youth wing's political bureau meeting at Wisma MCA here Thursday.
"The statement has been misinterpreted by certain quarters. They have their own agenda," he said.
He said MCA Youth stood firm on its call to the Government to continue giving PSD and Mara scholarships to deserving students.
"Our stand has never changed," he said.
