Najib’s favourite candidates take top posts to form a strong team
ALL the president’s men have garnered the top posts in the Umno elections.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is the new Umno deputy president and the three vice-presidents are Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
Muhyiddin, 61, who is the International Trade and Industry Minister, was Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s choice from the beginning.
He defeated party information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib after securing 1,575 votes to his rival’s 938.
Muhammad, 63, was perceived as outgoing Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s loyalist.
For the three vice-president posts, Ahmad Zahid obtained 1,592 votes, Hishammuddin 1,515 and Shafie 1,445.
Ahmad Zahid, 55, is Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department. He had last year announced his intention to contest for the deputy president’s post, but settled for the vice-presidency on the advice of Najib.
Hishammuddin, 47, who had relinquished his post as head of Umno Youth to contest for the vice-presidency, had been viewed as the favourite candidate after securing the highest number of nominations last November. The Education Minister is also Najib’s cousin.
Shafie, 51, is the Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister from Sabah. It had been said that the three new vice-presidents were the candidates favoured by Najib to complement his leadership.
Najib had envisioned the new party line-up as leaders who are capable, credible, loyal and acceptable by all Malaysians.
Four Mentris Besar and two Cabinet ministers were defeated in the contest for the 25-seat supreme council.
Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Abdul Samad and Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said lost their seats.
The Mentris Besar were Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman from Johor, Datuk Mohamad Hasan (Negri Sembilan), Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob (Pahang) and Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu (Perlis).
Only Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman won.
However, the president would usually appoint the Mentris Besar to the supreme council.
Sabah candidates made a strong showing in the vice-president, supreme council and Puteri contests.

Robbery happened in Taman Maluri, Cheras, KL
My friend, Mr Alan, sent this video to me, claiming that this robbery happened in Taman Maluri, Cheras, KL. It seems that the house is behind a police station.
Don't play play. Be very careful. It happened so fast. You must be on the watch out when you arrived home. If you suspected anything, just drive to the police station, that is the safest thing to do.

High Court restrains Perak Speaker
High Court restrains Perak Speaker (updated)
The Star reports:
IPOH: The High Court here has granted an order to restrain Perak Speaker V. Sivakumar from convening any unlawful meetings purporting to be state assemblies.
Judicial Commissioner Ridwan Ibrahim, who heard from lawyers on both sides in chambers, made his decision under Section 44 of Specific Relief Act.
Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir was seeking an injunction from the High Court to stop “all unlawful assembly sittings” by Pakatan Rakyat, which had formed the state government before Barisan Nasional took over in late January.
Dr Zambry’s lead counsel Firoz Hussein Ahmad told reporters after the hearing that he had submitted that the Speaker does not have the power to call any assembly, even an emergency sitting such as the one held earlier Tuesday.
The High Court order has no time limit and penalties would be decided later if and when the Speaker holds the next meeting deemed illegal.
The restraint order however is not retrospective and does not cover Tuesday morning’s emergency sitting in which three motions were passed, including one calling for the dissolution of the state assembly to pave the way for fresh polls.
Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran had earlier said it was a clear conflict of interest that the legal advisor who acted for Dr Zambry in a case last week represented Sivakumar in a case brought forward this time by Dr Zambry.
“How can he act for both plaintiff and defendant? It’s a clear case of conflict,” Kulasegaran said on behalf of Sivakumar.
Ridwan earlier Tuesday ruled, based on the Government Proceedings Act 1965, that five lawyers appointed by the Speaker had no locus standi to represent a government officer but that he should be represented by the state legal advisor or somebody appointed by the latter.
Sivakumar said he had not authorised the state legal advisor to act on his behalf.
“I have not received any communications from the legal advisor’s office nor have I given any instructions to him,” Sivakumar said in a statement handed out by Kulasegaran.
Dr Zambry also sought a court declaration that Sivakumar’s decision to suspend and bar him and six executive council members was unconstitutional and ultra vires the state constitution. That suit would be mentioned on Thursday.
Also to be heard Thursday is the lawsuit filed by three independents -- Behrang assemblyman Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi, Changkat Jering assemblyman Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu and Jelapang assemblyman Hee Yit Foong -- seeking a declaration that their seats are not vacant and that they are still the elected representatives of their constituencies.
Blogger: The High Court restrained the Perak Speaker from conducting any unlawful meeting purporting to be state assemblies. But what about the one he conducted the very morning to call for the dissolution of the state assembly to pave the way for fresh polls? In effect, Perak state assembly is dissolved and after the speaker informed the election commission about its dissolution, the later needs to call for a fresh election.

Anas Zubedy puts up this advertisement making a call to all Malaysian Politicians to work for the people
Dear Malaysian Politicians...
Please stop the power chase, call for a truce and focus on the economy.I do not claim to speak on behalf of all Malaysians, but I have strong convictions that many share my sentiments. Our concern today is not who rules the country or heads the state governments but the looming bad economy.Whether Barisan Nasional or Pakatan Rakyat leads, it is meaningless if Malaysians have no job to go to, no money to pay rent and no means to put food on the table.
I am a business owner, like other business owners and managers of corporations I have a responsibility to ensure people under my care and payroll continue to have jobs and a decent income to take home. We work hard and willing to go the extra mile to make sure our nation not only survive this crisis but come out stronger and wiser. We need your help.
Let me explain. I am in the business of Training, Development and Consultancy and have 20 people in my team. Saedah is 42. She keeps the office clean and helps organise the training rooms. She has four children and her husband is unemployed. She was first hired on a part time basis, because she is very hard working and has a great attitude, we offered her a full time job to help provide a stable income for her family. Even then, when her third child started school this year, it was a struggle for her to buy new school uniforms and other necessities. Saedah lives on a ‘kais bulan, makan bulan’ basis, so, if she is jobless, her tap runs dry.
Samsuri is 27 years old. He lives with his sister and her family in a low cost government flat in Sunway. He does our despatch, helps with various clerical works and occasionally acts as a driver. During the first week at Zubedy, we learned that he not only did not have money to buy new clothes and shoes for work, he had no money for lunch. Like Saedah, if he has no job, his tap runs dry too.
Alicia in Client Servicing turns 26 this year. She lives with her dad who is 71 years old and retired. Her mom passed away when she was little. Alicia is a hard-working team member, has a gentle caring outlook and fun to be with. (We like to poke fun at her as she blushes easily). Last May her dad went through a major operation, thank God he has recovered well. Alicia needs a job, both for herself and her dad.
Sudesh, 38, is one of our facilitators. When his father passed away last year, he moved back and lives with his mother in Seremban. He shuttles between Kuala Lumpur and Seremban daily, leaving home sometimes as early as 4 in the morning and returning late at night. He is no stranger to hard work and sacrifice, he knows what he needs to do to survive and to care for his mother, but he too needs a job.Like fellow Malaysians, every one of us in Zubedy needs employment, those that live from hand to mouth like Saedah and Samsuri and others like Alicia and Sudesh with family to care for.
We Malaysians need the Malaysian economy to be strong. We need you, our leaders, to work hard and to work together to make our economy viable. So this is my plea.
Pakatan Rakyat, please stop your attempts to take over the federal government and persuade BN’s lawmakers to join you. Stop all legal proceedings, no more 916 and let go, just let go. The nation can wait till the next general elections if they want change. By doing so, Malaysians will see your party as caring, unselfish and gracious and give you their support in the next elections.
Barisan Nasional, please stop any attempts to take over PR states and win over PR’s lawmakers. You have proven your point with Perak. The nation can wait for the next general elections if they want your party. Focus all your talent, energy and hard work in steering the country out of an economic downturn. By doing so, Malaysians will see your party as caring, unselfish and smart and give you their support in the next elections. BN and PR!
Call for a truce. Get together and compromise. Someone has to give in. Or has hate consumed your heart till it blinds you? You can do it. You have enough intelligent people between you. I am sure you can find solutions. Take the nation to heart. That is why you are in politics in the first place. Focus on the people. Focus on the economy.
